Qazigund, Feb 03 (KNO): A massive fire broke out at Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Qazigund area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Tuesday morning, causing extensive damage to the school building, officials said.
An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the blaze quickly engulfed the school building before it could be brought under control.
Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) personnel, assisted by police and locals, rushed to the spot and launched firefighting operations to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby structures.
“Two firefighters from the F&ES unit Qazigund sustained injuries during the operation,” the official said, adding that the injured personnel were identified as Muzaffar Ahmad Wani and Waseem Mehraj Shah.
They were shifted to a nearby medical facility for treatment, where their condition is stated to be stable.
The official said the cause of the fire is suspected to be a short circuit.
